torch wielding battle

Perang Obor, also known as the Torch War, is a unique cultural event that takes place annually in Jepara, Indonesia. Perang Obor is a traditional ceremony that symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and is typically held during the Islamic month of Muharram, which marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year. The event brings together the local community to commemorate and celebrate this important occasion. During the Perang Obor ceremony, participants, usually young men, gather in groups and carry lit torches made from bamboo sticks wrapped with cloth soaked in kerosene. These torches represent the symbol of light and are believed to ward off evil spirits and bring blessings to the village.
